Albert Pujols vs. Babe Ruth

Albert Pujols, is he the best pure hitter to ever play the game of baseball? Baseball fans everywhere have talked with their friends or heard this question on sports talk radio. In this article, we will go over some of the factors of why people are talking so much about this.

Now, Babe Ruth is known to many as being the best hitter, and/or the best baseball player ever. Is that true? I’m not sure; I’ve never seen him play. Baseball players today are bigger, stronger and have better equipment so it is unfair to compare the different eras. Would Babe Ruth have made it in this era drinking before games and eating hotdogs during the 7th inning stretch? It would be interesting to watch, but since we can’t, comparisons will be kept to 1982 and above.

Pujols has achieved so much in such a short period of time. He is still just 29 years old. He has been extremely consistent since the first time he stepped into a Major League Baseball batting box. If he continues with this consistency he will no doubt be considered as the best pure hitter to ever play the game of baseball.

Throughout his young career, Albert Pujols has a yearly batting average of .334. To make a career in the MLB a good batting average ranges from .270 to .300. In 2003, Pujols hit his career high batting average of .359. Now, Pujols hasn’t had a season average below .314 and his next lowest season average was .327. That is just sick. There are a lot of baseball players in MLB that can hit for a good average, but there aren’t many MLB players that can also hit towering homeruns. Pujols can do it.

Pujols is a big, strong, powerful hitting machine. Pitchers fear him and maybe that fear causes pitchers to make mistakes when pitching to Pujols. The least amount of homeruns Pujols has had in a season is 32. In 9 seasons, Pujols has managed to hit 40 homeruns in 5 of those seasons. That’s amazing! You also have to keep in my mind all the times pitchers pitch around him or he gets intentionally walked. In his career, Pujols has been intentionally walked 198 times.

Will Pujols be labeled as the best hitter ever? Will people talk about Albert Pujols as they do like Babe Ruth? Will Babe Ruth be a side note in the best hitter conversation? Only time can tell, but Albert Pujols is definitely on his way to being known as one of the best hitters of all time.
